Show or hide your widgets — your choice!
Sometimes it’d be nice to not have a long sidebar stuffed with widgets on a particular page, such as your “Contact Me” or “About Us” page. Or perhaps you prefer a cleaner look on some of them.
With Jetpack’s new Widget Visibility feature, you can now “control what pages your widgets appear on” (Jetpack’s explanation)–a great option, based on what you’d like your widgets to do and where you’d like them to show up!
Want to implement this change? Head on over to “Widgets” under your Appearance tab.
You’ll have to make this change on each individual widget; expand each widget and click on the “visibility” button near the bottom. Then choose a set of visibility options and save it.
Options include: whether or not to show that particular widget, where they show/don’t show (based on category, author, tag, date, or page)–and further customizations on when they are visible/invisible based on that option.
You can see an example of a widget change to the right–here I’m making sure that my Sitemap widget will show up on any 404 error page. There are so many options with this feature, though!
For example, if you wanted the Archives widget to only appear on category archives and error pages, choose “Show” from the first dropdown and then add two rules: “Page is 404 Error Page” and “Category is All Category Pages.”
You can also hide widgets based on the current page. For example, if you don’t want the Archives widget to appear on search results pages, choose “Hide” and “Page is Search results.”
