Automatically share your blog content on social media sites
Publicize is yet another feature that Jetpack offers; it connects “your site to popular social networks and automatically share[s] new posts”–making it a great time-saver. I tend to try to post my new articles up on social media sites myself, but not everyone has the time or inclination to do so, and this feature in Jetpack provides a simple and quick option. Currently available are the options to connect with Facebook and Google+ profiles and pages, LinkedIn, Twitter, Tumblr, and Path.
You’ll get to the configuration section of Publicize by going to Jetpack within your Dashboard, then clicking on “configure”, which takes you to the page shown below (only the top half of the page is shown; we’ll discuss the bottom section–and the sharing buttons–later in this post).
To connect to your different social profiles and pages, simply click on the text to the right of each social platform’s picture that you want connected, then allow permission for Jetpack to connect. If you have multiple Facebook pages, for example, you’ll have the opportunity to choose which page you would like blog updates to be fed to.
Now, see how it works by creating a new blog post. You’ll find Publicize visible on the right section, under the “publish” box. Click the “Edit” link beneath to open it up. Whichever social profiles you have connected should be automatically set up to publish when the blog post goes live–whether you will be publishing your blog post as soon as you’ve finished writing it, or have it scheduled to publish in the future. If you don’t want to send a particular post to Twitter, then just unclick the box. You also have the option of customizing the message sent to your social profiles. When you’re finished with your post, either schedule or publish it, and it will also be routed to your connected social media sites through Publicize.
As for the sharing buttons available through Publicize, go to “Sharing” beneath your Settings tab to edit them. You can add these sharing buttons to your blog, which will allow your visitors to share blog posts with their circle of contacts–a great way to share your site with others!
Whichever buttons you choose to add will be available at the bottom of each post. Simply drag and drop whichever sites you’d like people to share your blog on, within either the individual button section, or the shaded box for the buttons to all be hidden behind a share button. Customize them further by choosing the button style, text on the share button, and where these will be visible. Make sure to save your changes! And practice by sharing this post via one of the sites below!
If Publicize doesn’t look like the right fit for you, Hootsuite might be a better option in helping get your blog posts out there, as well as the ability to interact with your followers directly from that interface. Read more on Hootsuite here: Using HootSuite for Social Media.
