Allow readers to subscribe to posts and comments
Another one of Jetpack’s many available features is the ability to provide readers subscriptions to your blog posts and comments.
This is already available to your readers when they comment on a blog post (by checking the optional boxes of “notify me of follow-up comments via email” and “notify me of new posts” when commenting on an article–see below picture), but this is just another way to get those readers who haven’t commented to sign up for your blog. When readers subscribe to your blog using this new notification system through Jetpack, they’ll receive an email whenever you publish a new post, or when there are new comments–depending on what type of notification they signed up for.
This is a widget (meaning it’ll be one of your sidebar applications), that you will have to implement by going to Appearance–>Widgets within your Dashboard, after activating and configuring it in the Jetpack dashboard. Once activated and added to one of your sidebars, it should show up on your blog like the picture on the right, depending on the theme you use.
By pressing “activate” and “configure” for this particular feature in Jetpack, it’ll automatically redirect you to your discussion settings, where you can choose if you’ll allow readers to subscribe to comments and/or posts. Next, head over to Appearance–>Widgets to add it to your sidebar. Drag and drop the “Blog Subscriptions (Jetpack)” widget over to your sidebar, the edit the heading for the widget, add optional text if you wish, change the button’s text, and choose whether or not to show the amount of blog subscribers. Check it out on the front side of your blog to make sure your like it, then be sure to save!
