Load photos quickly
A faster load speed on your site is crucial, especially since the average webpage attention span of an online visitor is now clocked at under 1 minute, with the first 10 seconds being the critical time frame to capture their attention (time stats).
One thing that attracts the attention of a reader quickly is the use of great photos in your blog post–but if your WordPress site’s not loading those photos quickly enough, you will lose some of your visitors specifically because of that.
Photon is an available feature through Jetpack that helps with your site’s visual load time. With either a WordPress.com blog or a self-hosted WordPress.org blog connected to Jetpack, you can utilize this option. It gives “your site a boost by loading images in posts from the WordPress.com content delivery network” (from Jetpack) – by caching the pictures and serving them from WordPress’ network. This reduces the work load on your website’s hosting account, thereby loading faster pictures.
This works only on past and future posts – which sounds like it won’t load your header or sidebar images any quicker; but faster images somewhere is better than nothing! Also, this works for gif, png, and jpg images. More info on Jetpack’s Photon.
How to install Photon
This is one of the simplest features in Jetpack to incorporate; simply go to the Jetpack menu, locate “Photon” and click activate. No customization necessary – it’ll get to work for you right away!
