Be notified of activity in WordPress
Last week we covered using the commenting system available through Jetpack (you can read it here), but this week I’ll go over being alerted to those comments and more by integrating Jetpack’s Notifications feature.
This feature gives you the tools to “monitor and manage your site’s activity with Notification in your Toolbar and on WordPress.com.” Being able to see and interact in one spot is a nice tool to have (not that clicking over to your “comments” tab is difficult). If you have a self-hosted WordPress.org blog, you probably won’t be logging into your WordPress.com account just for this feature, but it is accessible on the top black toolbar of your site when you’re logged in.
It also allows you to see responses to your comment on someone else’s WordPress blog. To use it, activate this Notifications feature via the Jetpack tab. You’ll notice that once you’ve done that, a small gray, squared conversation bubble will appear in your upper-hand toolbar. Clicking on that symbol will open up a sign-in box–your sign-in credentials will be the same as the ones you used in signing up for Jetpack in the first place.
Once signed in, the notifications box will be highlighted in orange when there is any new notification; you can click on it to easily see what’s happening on your blog and in response to your comments on others’ sites.
Be sure to read up on using Jetpack’s many features by checking out the comprehensive overview of the WordPress Jetpack plugin and a summary of ALL of the available features.
