A great resource available for WordPress users is the Akismet plugin. For free (if using your site for personal reasons) or a low cost (if you use it for business), you receive a very effective system to block spammers from commenting (and trackbacking) on your blog. Added bonus: Akismet helps keep your site’s SEO PageRank up by blocking those spammers.
Akismet is a plugin, and you all know what to do with those. Search, install, and activate by going to the “Add new plugin” button under the “Plugins” tab.
Next you’ll have to configure it for your site by setting up an account–go to Akismet.com to do so. You will receive a confirmation email with an API pin code enclosed. Copy that key and paste it into the backend of your site–by clicking on “Akismet Configuration” within the “Plugins” tab. It’ll start working right away on blocking and terminating those spam comments.
