Once you’ve signed up for a blog, at some point you probably will want to branch out of the basic theme WordPress sets your blog up with, and start to display your creativity and choice of design.
To start the quest for your chosen design, click on “themes” under the appearance tab in your dashboard. You’ll be dropped off on the “manage themes” tab (which shows your current themes); just click on “install themes.” And there you have a world of options available to you!…or maybe only a few hundred. But here you can browse available WordPress themes at random, or by selecting “for sures” you definitely want your theme to have. Shop around by color, season, amount of columns, custom header, and so much more.
Once you find one you think you may like, be sure to click “preview” and make sure! If you’re satisfied, or want to try it out for a bit, then choose “activate.” Also, read the details on each design to see what is and is not available (some don’t support custom menus or headers, and others have more columns).
While in a WordPress.com blog you don’t have over a thousand themes to pick from like you do in a WordPress.org blog, there still are enough to be satisfied. The majority of designs are free for you to use, but there are premium themes available.
