How to personalize your automatic message to blog followers
When someone follows (via email) your blog posts and/or comments on a particular post (perhaps via Jetpack’s Subscriptions widget!), they receive an automated message, thanking them for subscribing.
But unless you’ve changed the default message, they’ll receive a pretty general email that may or may not fit with your site’s writing style/approach (after all, it starts off with “howdy”–which may not suit your blog or readers). So it’s a good idea to tweak your message to personalize the email that goes out. I’m guilty of not doing this; I’ve only recently changed my automated message so that it better suits Be Blog Smart and its followers.
Below you can see the default message; one to those who ask for blog posts to be emailed, and one for email updates to those following the comment stream on a specific blog post.
Changing your blog follow post is simple really. You can find the text to change under your Settings tab, at the bottom of the Reading section. Make it personable and suitable for your site!
To see what I changed, well, you’ll just have to subscribe! :)
If I could give one piece of advice: follow yourself–you’ll see what your new “follow” message looks like, and by receiving your published posts by email, you can view exactly what your email followers see and can make changes to the format of your future posts if needed.
